Semrush Site Audit alternatives for big sites: the per-audit cap problem

Semrush's Starter and Pro+ plans stop each Site Audit at 20,000 pages, whatever the monthly allowance. Here's what that does to a big site's audit, and which tools crawl the whole thing in one go.

Semrush Site Audit alternatives for big sites: the per-audit cap problem

Semrush Site Audit caps each audit at 20,000 pages on the Starter and Pro+ plans and 100,000 on Advanced, according to Semrush's own knowledge base. The monthly allowance (100,000 or 300,000 pages) doesn't change that. A 37,000-page site on Pro+ gets a 20,000-page audit, four times a month. If your site is bigger than 20,000 pages and Site Audit is the main reason you pay for Semrush, the alternatives that crawl it in one audit start at about $23 a month for desktop crawlers and $39 to $129 a month for cloud tools. Semrush Advanced also works, up to 100,000 pages; as of November 2026 Semrush no longer publishes its price ("Custom", request a demo).

If you use Semrush for keyword research, rank tracking, competitor data or its AI visibility tools, keep it. Nothing below replaces those. This is about the audit only.

Disclosure: SEOFix is our product. Last checked: 8 October 2026. Prices are in USD, monthly billing unless stated, from each vendor's own pricing or help page on that date. Pricing changes often, so check the linked pages before you buy.

Semrush's plans and Site Audit limits, October 2026

Semrush renamed its plans. The pricing page now lists Free, SEO, Starter, Pro+ and Advanced, plus custom Enterprise:

PlanMonthlyBilled yearly (per month)
SEO$139$117.33
Starter (SEO + AI Search)$199$165.17
Pro+ (SEO + AI Search)$299$248.17
Advanced (SEO + AI Search)Custom (request a demo)Custom

Neither the pricing page nor the plan comparison article lists Site Audit page limits. The Site Audit limits article still uses the old toolkit names, and maps the new plans onto them: "Semrush One Starter includes Pro SEO Toolkit", "Semrush One Pro+ includes Guru SEO Toolkit", "Semrush One Advanced includes Business SEO Toolkit". Put together:

PlanToolkit levelPages per auditPages per month
No toolkit (Free)none100100
StarterPro20,000100,000
Pro+Guru20,000300,000
AdvancedBusiness100,0001,000,000

Two more details from the same article. Unused pages "do not roll over month to month", and limits reset on the 1st. And "JS rendering is available with a Guru or Business SEO Toolkit subscription", so on the new plans that's Pro+ and Advanced.

We couldn't find the audit limits of the standalone SEO plan ($139) on any Semrush page today. The knowledge base doesn't map it to a toolkit level. If you're considering it for a large site, ask Semrush or check during the 7-day trial.

What a 20,000-page cap does to a larger site

On a 37,000-page site, a 20,000-page audit covers 54% of the pages, and the missing 46% aren't random:

  • Which pages get crawled depends on link depth. The crawler stops at 20,000 pages, so the deepest pages, usually the long tail of product, job or listing pages where template bugs live, are the ones left out.
  • Site-wide checks become meaningless. Orphan pages, internal link counts and incoming-link checks need the whole link graph. On a partial crawl, a page looks orphaned because the page linking to it wasn't reached.
  • Week-to-week comparisons break. If the site changes, each run can reach a different 20,000 pages, so "new issues" and "fixed issues" partly reflect what got crawled.

The workaround is to split the site into several audits by section (one per subfolder or subdomain). That works for some checks and loses others: links between sections aren't seen, and each section uses its own share of the monthly allowance. On a site where one template, say /jobs/[slug], has 30,000 pages, splitting doesn't help.

The alternatives, by what they cap

The question to ask each tool is the largest single audit it allows, then whether the monthly allowance covers your audit schedule.

Cheapest plan for weekly audits of the whole site

Weekly audits mean about 4.33 audits a month (52 ÷ 12). Two example sizes: our own site, jobxdubai.com (37,218 pages on its last full crawl), and a 100,000-page site.

How we got there:

  • Ahrefs. The pricing page's plan data lists max pages per project of 25,000 (Lite), 50,000 (Standard) and 250,000 (Advanced). Credits are kinder than they look. Ahrefs says "only internal HTML pages that return the 200 (OK) HTTP status code" use credits, and the first 5,000 credits per verified project each month are free. A 100,000-page site needs Advanced for the per-project cap, not the credits.
  • SE Ranking. Core allows 250k pages a month and 250k per project, Growth 2M a month and 1M per project (subscription page). A 100,000-page site audited weekly needs about 433,000 pages a month, which is over Core's allowance.
  • Screaming Frog. The paid licence has an "Unlimited" crawl limit, with the caveat that the maximum "is dependent on allocated memory and storage" (pricing). Both free and paid versions list scheduling, but a scheduled desktop crawl needs a machine that's on.
  • Sitebulb. Lite allows 10,000 URLs per audit and Pro 500,000 (pricing). Sitebulb Cloud starts from $125 a month on the same page and is aimed at teams.
  • JetOctopus. Growth is 500,000 crawled URLs a month with log analysis included (pricing). We couldn't find a per-crawl limit on the pricing page, so confirm it for a single large site.
  • SEOFix. The per-audit cap is a quarter of the monthly page tier: at least 10,000 on Starter and 250,000 on Growth, never more than 500,000 (plans and credits). Starter's 150k tier allows 37,500 pages per audit, just enough for jobxdubai.com, and the 500k tier ($79) allows 125,000.

Notes on each tool

Semrush Advanced

If you're already on Semrush and your site is under 100,000 pages, upgrading to Advanced is the least disruptive fix: same projects, same reports, plus the JS rendering that Starter doesn't have. You also get the Advanced plan's other limits (40 websites to monitor and 5,000 keywords tracked daily, per the plan comparison). It's the most expensive way to get a single 37,000-page audit in this list, and at exactly 100,000 pages it runs out of room.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs Lite is $129, Standard $249, Advanced $449. The free 5,000 credits per verified project, and the rule that redirects and errors don't use credits, make Ahrefs cheaper on credits than its headline numbers suggest. Lite's 25,000-page project cap has the same problem as Semrush's 20,000. Best for: teams that would switch their backlink and keyword work to Ahrefs too.

SE Ranking

SE Ranking Core at $129 ($103.20 yearly) is the cheapest cloud suite here that crawls a 37,000-page site in one audit, weekly, and it includes rank tracking (2,000 keywords a day on Core). The 250,000-page monthly allowance is the constraint for bigger sites. Best for: a cheaper all-in-one suite, for sites up to about 57,000 pages audited weekly.

Screaming Frog SEO Spider

$279 a year with no crawl limit beyond your hardware (pricing). It's the deepest crawler here for custom extraction and one-off investigations. The trade-off is running it yourself, on a machine with enough RAM for the site. Best for: technical SEOs who want full control and don't mind operating the crawler.

Sitebulb

Pro at $42 a month audits up to 500,000 URLs per run on your own machine, with scheduled audits and readable, prioritised reports (pricing). Sitebulb also groups pages by their underlying HTML template, which helps on large templated sites. Best for: consultants and agencies who want client-ready reports.

JetOctopus

Growth is $349 a month on annual billing with 500,000 crawled URLs and 2M log lines; Pro is $809 for 2M URLs (pricing). It's the one tool here with log analysis in every plan. Best for: large sites where crawl budget is a real question and you can export server logs.

Seobility and Lumar

Seobility caps crawls at 25,000, 50,000 and 100,000 pages on Premium, Professional and Agency (€59.90 to €209.90 a month), so it has the same ceiling problem as Semrush at a lower price. Lumar doesn't publish prices or limits; expect an enterprise sales process.

SEOFix

1 credit per page crawled, 0.2 credit for a page that answers 304 Not Modified on a repeat audit. Starter is one site; Growth is 30 sites with a 250,000-page minimum per audit. For jobxdubai.com, the 150k tier ($39) covers four full weekly audits (148,872 credits), and a month with five audits needs about 37,000 more. That comes from unchanged pages at 0.2 credit if the server sends ETag or Last-Modified, or from a 25,000-credit pack at $29. Unused credits don't expire.

What you don't get: backlink and keyword data, Google rich-result validation (only JSON syntax, @context and @type), log analysis, or full JavaScript rendering (SEOFix audits server HTML and can render a sample of up to 20 pages). What you do get is aimed at fixing: issues grouped into one task per check code and URL template (fixing by template), an MCP server and REST API for coding agents, and Verify fix to recheck the affected URLs after a deploy. Best for: developers, and the agents working for them, who fix SEO issues in code.

Combinations that work

  • Keep Semrush, move the audit. If Semrush's keyword and competitor data is why you pay for it, staying on Starter or Pro+ and running the full-site audit elsewhere costs less than upgrading to Advanced for most of the tools above.
  • Semrush for a section, a crawler for the site. Semrush's 20,000-page audit is fine for a blog or marketing section. Point it there and crawl the large templated sections with something else.
  • Search Console alongside any of them. No third-party crawler knows what Google indexed. The Page indexing report does.

For the same calculation from the Ahrefs side, see Ahrefs Site Audit alternatives for large sites.

How we calculated this

  • Weekly audits: pages × 52 ÷ 12. 37,218 × 4.33 ≈ 161,000; 100,000 × 4.33 ≈ 433,000.
  • A plan qualifies if its per-audit or per-project cap is at least the site's size and its monthly allowance covers the weekly total, or it has no such limit.
  • Prices exclude taxes, extra users and add-ons. Desktop tools exclude hardware.
  • Semrush's per-audit limits come from its knowledge base, which maps Starter, Pro+ and Advanced to the Pro, Guru and Business toolkits. Every figure links to the vendor page it came from, fetched on 8 October 2026.

Check what your site costs to audit on the SEOFix pricing slider. The first audit, up to 500 pages, is free.
